Kossa Geshe Farm is nestled in the lush highlands of the Kebena Forest in Western Ethiopia’s Limmu Kossa District—a breathtaking 1,000-hectare sanctuary that’s as much about preserving nature as it is about producing world-class coffee. Since its establishment in 2009, thanks to a land grant from Ethiopia’s investment agency, this farm has been on a mission to protect some of the last dense forests in the country while cultivating exceptional coffee.
Abdulwahid Sherif, the heart and soul behind Kossa Geshe and fairly new producer, kickstarted operations in 2006, harvesting his very first coffee crop the same year. Just two years later, his coffee was shining on the global stage, earning a prestigious Good Food Award. This was a groundbreaking moment—not only for Kossa Geshe but for Western Ethiopian coffee, placing it alongside the legendary naturals of Sidamo and Yirgacheffe.
But Abdul’s vision extends beyond coffee beans. He’s pouring his energy into uplifting his community, building a school on the farm for pre-first-grade children and improving worker well-being with better facilities and a transparent ledger system for fair wages.
